No. The procedure is carried out under local anaesthetic, and conscious sedation is available for nervous patients. Most patients are surprised by how manageable the experience is. Some tenderness and swelling in the days following surgery is normal and settles quickly.

For the first 3 to 6 months while the implants are fusing with the bone, you follow a soft food diet. Once your permanent final bridge is fitted, you can eat normally, including foods that were impossible with dentures.
